Growing food. Growing belonging.

A welcoming place in Lake Cowichan where seniors, families, children and neighbours can grow their own food—and where fresh harvests help nourish the wider community.

Rooted in community

Food with a purpose

The garden has two sides. Through its Food Initiative program, it grows fresh food for Community Services and the local food bank. The rest of the garden is private plots — individually paid for by the members who rent them, and used exclusively by those members for their own growing.

01

Fresh food shared

All produce grown in the Food Initiative area — along with harvests donated by private plot growers — is distributed exclusively through Cowichan Lake Community Services and the Lake Cowichan Food Bank. It is not open for public picking; the food reaches people through those two organizations.

02

Room to grow

Plots and garden boxes make growing possible for people at many ages and experience levels.

03

Stronger connections

Shared work, shared knowledge and shared harvests bring the community together.

From plot to pantry

Every harvest matters

In the Food Initiative area, tomatoes, beans, squash, potatoes and other produce are gathered through the season for local food programs. What begins as a seed becomes healthy food, practical learning and a direct act of care.

Where our food goes

Growing for our neighbours

Through its Food Initiative program, the garden grows food for two local organizations that connect fresh food with people in Lake Cowichan. All produce from the Food Initiative area, together with items donated by private plot growers, is distributed exclusively through these two partners — it is not available for the public to pick or take from the garden. Through those two organizations, the food also reaches the surrounding communities beyond Lake Cowichan — Honeymoon Bay, Mesachie Lake and Youbou. We are grateful for their partnership and for the care they bring to our community.
